On a hot afternoon in Doral, I landed this peacock bass from the canal that runs behind Tails & Tails Dog Park. It was one of those catches I’ll never forget—I snapped a photo and immediately sent it to my buddy Nhat.

Spot details
Location line: Canal behind Tails & Tails Dog Park, Doral, FL
(25.818679, -80.385741)

Access: Bank fishing along the Greenway Trail, easy walk, plenty of room to cast.
Species: Peacock bass (plus potential largemouth and other exotics).
Best time: Late afternoon or early morning on warm days.
How I caught it
I don’t remember the exact bait I used that day, but peacocks in this canal crush fast, noisy topwater lures and bright jerkbaits. Think prop baits, walk‑the‑dog plugs, or a 3–4 inch jerkbait worked quickly near the bank.
Tips for other anglers
- Be respectful of park users and keep dogs/people in mind when casting.
- Watch for traffic and railings near the road.
- Bring a small shoreline setup: pliers, small tackle box, maybe a net.
